Free tools · the front porch

Work it out yourself first.

No email, no sign-up, no data captured. This is the front porch of the road less taxed – the free step before any step. All three of these run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere, stored anywhere, or seen by us. Use them, close the tab, and we will never know you were here.

Three tools

All free, all honest about their limits

01

Business Relief checker

Five properties is a portfolio - is it a business? Nine questions, about four minutes, and a verdict with the reasoning shown. Ordinary buy-to-let does not qualify however large it is, and the tool says so plainly rather than flattering you.

02

Would a Family Investment Company help?

The structure everyone gets offered. Eight questions and a verdict, with two things printed on every answer whatever you put in: a FIC saves nothing in Inheritance Tax on the money you put into it, and no Business Relief is available on the shares.

03

Pension Tension

What the April 2027 pension Inheritance Tax changes mean for your family, with ten response strategies compared. Built on ONS National Life Tables 2022–2024 rather than assumptions.

What they are and aren’t

Illustrations, not advice.

All three print their assumptions on the face of the output, with the date of the law they were built on. All are screening instruments – they tell you whether a conversation is worth having, not what you should do.

All currently carry a DRAFT / UNSIGNED notice. That is because our Chartered Tax Adviser has not yet signed off every figure behind them, and we would rather say so than let you assume otherwise.

Decisions about pensions, investments and insurance products belong with an FCA-regulated adviser. Decisions about your tax affairs belong with a qualified tax adviser looking at your actual circumstances.

Important. This page is general commentary, not advice. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and legislation changes. All tax advice is provided in writing by a Chartered Tax Adviser who is a current member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, who is responsible for that advice. Decisions about pensions, investments and insurance products belong with an FCA-regulated adviser.
