About

I don’t know all the answers.

But I’ve been asked every question, multiple times. Thirty-five years of sitting across the table from people who own property and want to know what happens to it. That is the whole proposition, and everything below explains how it works.

I’m not a Chartered Tax Adviser.

After thirty-five years I still don’t know all the answers. But I’ve been asked every question, multiple times.

All tax advice comes to you in writing, from a colleague who is a Chartered Tax Adviser and a current member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation – chosen by me as the best fit for the planning you actually need. That colleague engages you in writing and is responsible for the advice they give.

What I do is different, and I think more useful. I work out what you actually want, I know which questions matter, and I know who to put in the room. Over three decades you learn where the problems hide.

Choose your adviser as you would choose your surgeon. Not on price alone. Martin Beadle

The model

Experts in Residence

Most firms carry their specialists as permanent overhead. That is expensive, and it quietly shapes the advice – a firm with a trust department finds a lot of clients who need trusts.

We do it the other way. A network of named specialists, contracted, brought in when your situation calls for them. Each a Chartered Tax Adviser and CIOT member. Each engaging you directly, in writing, and carrying responsibility for their own advice under their own professional indemnity arrangements.

Three things follow from that.

The technical range is wider. We can put someone in front of you who does your specific problem all day, rather than someone competent who will read up on it.

There is no in-house bias. Nobody here has a department to keep busy.

The fees reflect it. You are not paying for an empty desk.

One face to you throughout. The right specialist behind it. Nobody learning on your time.

How we’re paid

Fixed fee or hourly. You choose, in advance.

We are deliberately selective about who we work with, because this is not right for everyone.

It starts with a free Power Hour – a proper conversation about your goals, your assets and what you want to happen. We go a mile wide and an inch deep across the possibilities.

If it feels right on both sides, we research and architect your options at our cost: a short report, a spreadsheet of the tax effects, and a diagram of how it fits together, including likely costs. We contribute that work at our own expense. When it is done, you either stop – no charge, nothing owed – or you continue and we quote for the rest.

Once the scope is agreed we set either a fixed fee or an hourly rate, whichever you prefer. You incur no costs unless and until you formally engage us, in writing.

Ongoing, for professional property investors, all-in planning typically runs at £10,000 a year or £1,000 a month, both plus VAT. Experience suggests the Reliefs and Allowances properly used significantly outweigh the fees. We will show you the arithmetic rather than assert it.

Important. This page is general commentary, not advice. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and legislation changes. All tax advice is provided in writing by a Chartered Tax Adviser who is a current member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, who is responsible for that advice. Decisions about pensions, investments and insurance products belong with an FCA-regulated adviser.
