The Resource Optimisation Programme

The road less taxed.

Three documents, in a fixed order, and the first two are free. Your Opportunities Report shows the shape of the problem. Your Map the Gap Report answers the question that comes before every plan – how much is enough? Your Fix the Tax Report is the plan itself. Then we put it in place, and keep it right, for life.

Why this way round

Most planning starts with the tax. That’s backwards.

Start with the tax and you end up being told what to give away before anyone knows what you can afford to lose. Which is why so many people are handed a plan, feel uneasy about it, and quietly do nothing.

Start with your life and the arithmetic reverses. Once you know what you genuinely need – income, capital, contingency, the lot – the surplus becomes visible. The surplus is the only thing worth planning with. Everything else you keep, without argument.

Sometimes the answer is that there isn’t much surplus, and the honest conversation is about making sure you don’t run short. We will tell you that too.

The Resource Optimisation Programme

The journey. No surprises.

It begins on the front porch, runs through the three documents of the road less taxed, and ends with a plan that stays right for life. You can stop at the end of any step and keep everything produced up to that point. Nothing rolls on automatically.

  1. Discover

    The front porch

A conversation, and the free tools. Then straightforward questions about your family, your property and what you want to happen to it, in your own secure portal - about an hour, with a traffic-light system showing progress. Leave blank what you don’t know; the system tells us what to ask next.

You receiveA clear picture of your own position, and honest first indications - nothing is charged, and nothing is sent anywhere without you.
    Free
  2. Your Opportunities Report

The road less taxed · part one · “What might be possible?”

We give away exactly one thing, free: the headline tax-saving opportunities in your own facts. Both sides of the ledger are shown - what each opportunity appears to be worth to your family, and what it costs to leave things as they are. Every figure comes from the engine, on your stated facts; no number is typed by hand.

You receiveA written screening report: each opportunity with an indicative size, your traffic lights, and the cost of doing nothing against the cost of doing something. No obligation.
    Free
  3. Your Map the Gap Report

The road less taxed · part two · “How much is enough?”

Nobody gives anything away until they know what they must keep. We cash-flow model your whole financial life, year by year, to the second death - the life you want to sustain, the reserve you never dip below, the lumpy years along the way - so you can see, in today’s money, the number you need for the rest of your life. Everything above that line is surplus, and the surplus is the only thing worth planning with.

You receiveA written report - your “enough” number, your surplus, what each of your family inherits with and without action, the seven-year timing arithmetic, and a plain verdict: green, amber or red.
    Free
  4. Your Fix the Tax Report

The road less taxed · part three · “What would you actually do, in what order?”

The plan itself, and the first fee of the journey. Engagement letter first, then your surplus becomes a sequenced written plan: every planning domain on our register worked through against your facts - “checked, not skipped” - with each step’s worth, cost and timing shown, and action against no action quantified throughout. Around fourteen hours of senior technical work; we contribute seven at our cost.

You receiveYour written route-map, signed off by a Chartered Tax Adviser - including the schedule of allowances you are already entitled to this year, counted from your own facts. Nothing is implemented until you say so.
    £1,400
  5. Putting it in place

    “Who does the work?”

Wills, trusts, gifting programmes, protection and structures - each piece delivered by named specialists: our Experts in Residence, working with us under formal written agreements.

You receiveA fixed fee, in writing, before you commit to each item - never a percentage of your assets - shown beside the saving it enables.
    Quoted per item, in writing
  6. Your Living Plan

    “How does it stay right?”

Legislation moves, families change, assets grow. Your plan lives in your portal, is reviewed twice a year, compounds the allowances that renew each year, and tracks every gift through its seven-year cycle.

You receiveAn always-on portal, two reviews a year, and - when the time comes - probate handled for your family, with next-generation takeover of the plan.
    Simple subscription

Everything up to and including your Map the Gap Report is free. Later fees are shown exclusive of VAT. Every fee is confirmed in writing before any work begins, and you can pause or stop at the end of any step.

The verdict at step two

Green, amber or red - and if it’s red, we stop.

Map the Gap ends in a verdict. Green means the life you want is safely paid for, for life, with surplus to plan with – the road continues to Fix the Tax. Amber means it is close, and we go carefully. Red means the honest answer is that the life you have described is not yet sustainable without drawing your capital down further than is comfortable.

When the verdict is red, we say so in writing. We propose no gifting programme, we do not invite you into Fix the Tax, and we take no fee for tax planning you should not yet buy – because every pound given away would be taken from your own security, and no honest plan starts there. The rule this firm works to is simple: nothing we ever propose touches what you need.

That is not a door closing. The conversation that follows is about making sure you never run short – and if your position changes, the road is still there.

One plan, not ten opinions

The ten domains your plan works through.

Most families collect advice in fragments – a solicitor here, an accountant there, none of them talking to each other. The Resource Optimisation Programme joins it up: the engine sits at the centre, our Experts in Residence work around it, and every domain feeds one coherent plan. Where nothing applies, your report says so – checked, not skipped.

Why timing is everything

There is no pressure here - only arithmetic.

The seven-year clock. Make a gift the right way, survive seven years, and it leaves your estate completely – the tax on it falls to zero. That is not a concession HMRC grants; it is the law working exactly as Parliament wrote it. The clock on each gift starts only when the gift is made, which is why the same plan, started earlier, generally passes more to your family than the identical plan started later.

Gifts out of surplus income are different again. Regular gifts from income you do not need are exempt immediately, with no seven-year wait at all – for as long as the pattern holds and your income supports it. Your Map the Gap Report puts a number on the headroom.

And some dates are the law’s own. From April 2027, unused pension funds are counted in the estate. What that means for your family, and the responses available, is modelled before the date – not explained after it.

Allowances you already have expire quietly. Every family has a set of fixed amounts the law already allows them to give away, or keep, free of tax, every single year. Most expire at the end of the tax year with no reminder ever sent. Your Fix the Tax Report counts yours, from your own facts – and set against the £1,400 fee, that schedule alone often means the plan pays for itself before a single clever step is taken.

What you should expect

Four things that don’t change.

Everything in writing. Every figure, every recommendation, every fee, before you commit to anything.

Chartered Tax Advisers sign the advice. Named, CIOT members, responsible for what they put their name to.

You decide at every step. Nothing is implemented until you are comfortable. Stopping is a normal outcome, not a failure.

The figures come from the engine, not from a conversation. Nobody types a number into your plan by hand.

Start on the front porch

An hour, on me.

The road starts with just a conversation. What you own, what you want to happen to it, what is worrying you.

Important. This page is general commentary, not advice. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and legislation changes. All tax advice is provided in writing by a Chartered Tax Adviser who is a current member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, who is responsible for that advice. Decisions about pensions, investments and insurance products belong with an FCA-regulated adviser.
